How to Stop Gray Market Diversion at the Item Level

The problem

Diversion erodes pricing, damages channel relationships and undercuts authorized partners, and it does so using your own genuine product. An authenticity check returns a clean result every time, because the item really is authentic.

The question that matters is not whether the item is real but whether this particular unit is where it was supposed to go. Lot and batch tracking cannot answer it. Knowing a shipment came from a given production run tells you nothing about which of those units surfaced at an unauthorized reseller.

Why conventional tracking misses it

Most supply chain tracking is designed to follow shipments, not units, and most identifiers can be removed once a product leaves the authorized channel.

  • Serial numbers can be defaced or the records claimed lost.

A better approach: an identity that cannot be stripped
